Louis Lewandowski Seminary for Cantorial Training
The cantorial seminary, named after the famous Jewish composer Louis Lewandowski—who stood between tradition and modernity—serves both the liberal and conservative movements. The Lewandowski Seminary prepares future cantors for the shaping and accompaniment of Jewish liturgy.
Students learn nusah (traditional prayer modes) and melodies for various religious occasions, as well as te'amim (Torah and Haftarah cantillation).
Training in practical musical disciplines is closely integrated with rabbinical education and includes the study of Jewish sacred texts, liturgy, Jewish thought, and the Hebrew language.
